The Major Arcana: Understanding the Fool's Journey

The Major Arcana is a set of 22 cards numbered 0 through 21. These are the most recognisable cards in any tarot deck - The Fool, The Magician, The High Priestess, Death, The Tower, and The World among them.

While the Minor Arcana deals with everyday events and practical concerns, the Major Arcana represents the big themes of human existence: love, loss, transformation, wisdom, and spiritual growth. When Major Arcana cards appear in a reading, they signal that something significant is at play - a life lesson, a turning point, or a profound internal shift.

The Major Arcana tells a story known as The Fool's Journey. It begins with The Fool (card 0), a figure stepping off a cliff into the unknown, and ends with The World (card 21), representing completion, wholeness, and integration.

Between these two cards, The Fool encounters every major archetype and experience that shapes a life:

The Beginning (Cards 0–7)

The final act brings the most intense experiences. The Fool faces their shadows, endures destruction, and emerges into clarity and joy. The World marks not an end, but a graduation - the cycle begins again at a higher level.

When a Major Arcana card appears in your reading, pay close attention. These cards carry more weight than Minor Arcana cards and often point to:
